What is a workspace?
In Exact Synergy or the business process management component of Macola 10, all users are presented with a workspace when they first open the software.
This workspace is individual to each user so that they can add shortcuts to screens, reports, data and websites that they use in their daily work.
Workspaces can also be created and shared among job functions, departments and other logical groupings within a business.
A common customer request: one workspace for all users
Some companies wish to provide one common workspace to their users for ease of training and support or even security.
Harvest Ventures has developed a security feature to disable the Exact Synergy workspaces management function for specific users.
Exact Synergy Security Role for Workspaces by Harvest Ventures – How it Works
Out-of-the-box, all standard users can modify their own workspace by clicking the plus icon in the bottom right corner and adding widgets.
Users can also open the Workspaces Catalogue from the right-hand menu where they can access additional workspaces shared by other users.
New workspaces can also be created by standard users from the ‘Create’ menu in the top right.
Harvest Ventures’ customization removes these abilities from standard users by requiring a user to have a specific role to access the workspace functions. Meaning the user can only use the workspace that’s provided to them and nothing else.
Harvest Ventures’ workspaces customization is role based and limits the ability to:
- create new workspaces
- modify existing workspaces
- or access the workspaces catalogue.
If a user does not have the appropriate role, they will see the “Access denied” message when trying to access the workspaces catalogue or when trying to create a new workspace.
The video below will demonstrate how this customization works:
